Green Horizon provides a unique form of sponsorship for clients who want to make a real environmental impact. Through our carefully selected and designed projects we provide clients the opportunity to be actively and directly involved in early-stage regeneration and reforestation projects. Green Sponsorship

Before going any further, we would like to introduce you to ‘Green Sponsorship’ or the guiding principle behind Green Horizon. Ever wanted to start your own impact project? Green Horizon can make it happen. Green Sponsorship provides clients the opportunity to support projects, which Green Horizon has carefully selected and designed, and through financial sponsorship turn projects into an environmental and social impact success story.

As the sole financial caretaker of a project, a client can rightfully claim to be the initiator and facilitator of a project and share their project with the world. For this goal we developed the Media Package which includes the certificate with project location and coordinates, size of protected area, what green works are planned, what is looks like at the start, periodic updates on the project, the growth of these trees, and the generated impact along every step of the way.

Media Package

We identify projects suitable for restoration and / or conservation purposes while providing opportunities for local communities.
We, together with our qualified agro-forestry specialist partners, create a design and plan for each project.
These projects, along with an extensive project plan, are then offered to clients who can then choose the project(s) they will sponsor.
Clients then fund their project(s) through Green Sponsorship and we can begin with our operations like prepping the land, planting trees, and involving the local community.
Once developed the project will be monitored by us, while external parties validate and certify the project’s targets relating to carbon sequestration and community development.
Once the targets have been validated and certified, Green Horizon will issue certified carbon (& biodiversity) credits which are offered on the Voluntary Carbon Market.

How does it work?

Our Activities

At Green Horizon we facilitate a wide range of activities which cater to our Quad Green Approach which together with our clients, through Green Sponsorship, creates real environmental and positive social impact through climate impact, increased biodiversity, conservation and social impact via support and involvement of the local communities.

Reforestation & Afforestation

Reforestation is the process of replanting trees in areas that used to have tree cover but that have been affected by natural disturbances like wildfires and drought — and unnatural ones like logging, mining, agricultural clearing, and (human) development. Afforestation creates forests by planting in an area where there was no previous tree cover.

Agroforestry & Food Forests

Agroforestry and food forests involve the planting of diverse edible plants that attempt to mimic the ecosystems and patterns found in nature which help build increasingly diverse ecosystems and produce food for both local communities and biodiversity. These trees for example produce a wide range of fruits, nuts, spices, and medicines which can be used and consumed by local communities.

Sustainable Forest Management

Sustainable forest management (SFM) is a concept that guides forest management and policy globally. SFM allows us to conserve water resources and prevent flooding, reduces run-off, controls soil erosion, reduces river siltation, preserves biodiversity and preserves cultures and traditions.

Soil Sequestration

Soil sequestration, also known as “carbon farming” or “regenerative agriculture,” includes ways of managing and restoring land, especially farmland, so that soils can absorb and hold more carbon, while also providing a solid basis for reforestation and afforestation practices.

Benefits of Green Horizon Projects

By supporting meaningful conservation projects, companies signal to their stakeholders that they’re paying more than just lip service attention to combat climate change or comply to ESG regulations (by for example only purchasing carbon (offset) credits which some might call ‘greenwashing’) but instead go further and create genuine ecosystem & social impact by initiating and sponsoring their own projects with support of Green Horizon. For some companies the ESG & CSR benefits and the outward image can easily outweigh the actual cost of the project(s).

Through Green Horizon’s projects, clients can increase their positive environmental impact through the restoration of degraded & degrading ecosystems, preserving and (re)introducing biodiversity, as well as make a social impact by benefiting the people who live in and around our projects through job creation and community inclusion projects such as regenerative agriculture and permaculture.

Unlike other projects who are not often able to provide longevity or permanence for their projects, Green Horizon, through its local entities and partners, owns the land (rights) for 50+ years and therefore has full control over its protected areas and its use. Green Horizon's projects and organisational structure are designed with trustworthiness and complete transparency in mind, therefore the sole use of any and all funds are catered to our mission towards conservation and the integration with and mobilisation of local communities, and not to the benefit of certain individuals within the foundation. This is something that cannot be said for certain other organisations within the market.

Our projects deliver holistic benefits, providing climate, ecological and social benefits. Through our reforestation and afforestation actions we help the environment in degraded or deforested areas by promoting and accelerating the growth of healthy forests and preserving or re-introducing biodiversity. For every project we initiate we have the utmost attention towards inclusion of local communities, job creation and making use of local suppliers and partners.
